Lead a Small Group Topic

We've found that Small Groups become even more vibrant and engaging when members share responsibility for choosing and leading session topics.

  • Use an existing session. Our index of existing sessions includes a wide range topics, offering spiritual and intellectual exploration, ways to broaden perspectives through sharing our personal stories and experiences, and opportunities to inspire us to live our values in our own lives, our community, and our world.
  • Create a session of your own. Our Create a Session page offers guidance on basic session structure, suggestions for variations, and downloadable templates for the Order of Service and Facilitator Notes.
  • Find session resources. Our Session Resources page lists a wide range of links to content sources, other Unitarian Universalist sites with Small Group sessions, and sites with more information on Small Group Ministry.

Facilitate a Small Group

The Small Group Ministries Steering Committee chooses facilitators, who are UUSF members, lead each Small Group. Most groups have either two co-facilitators or one facilitator and an assistant facilitator.

All facilitators receive initial training on leading groups, have periodic retreats to explore group dynamics and other relevant topics in more depth, and meet monthly to check in with each other and provide support as needed.
