Breath

This program is about becoming aware of your breath and how it can affect your physical and spiritual well-being. The session includes several exercises to help members focus on their breathing.

Member Preparation

Conscious breathing plays a part in a variety of spiritual practices—think about the importance of breath in meditation, in yoga. In preparation for this session, spend some time thinking about conscious breathing in your own life.

These questions provide ways you may want to approach this topic. Remember to focus on just one or two of the questions, if you choose to use them, as this will allow you to explore the topic in more depth.

  • How often are you consciously aware of your breath?
  • How do you breathe when you are angry? Happy? Anxious? Relaxed?
  • Have you ever engaged in any deliberate study or effort to work with your breath? If so, what were your results?
  • Some cultures believe the breath is the link between the mind and body. How you feel about this belief?

Special Materials

  • Timer (you’ll need to be able to set the timer for 5 minutes)
  • Breathing Exercise Instructions (these are included in the Facilitator Notes document)
