Patience, Endurance, Stoicism, and Forbearance

This program is about four related but slightly different concepts: Patience, Endurance, Stoicism, and Forbearance. In particular, the questions encourage group members to consider how incidents in their own lives (or in those of people they admire) have caused them to incorporate these ways of being (or their opposites) into their own lives.

Member Preparation

In preparation for this session, spend some time thinking about the concepts of Patience, Endurance, Stoicism, and Forbearance. These four words describe related (but slightly different) ways of being.

These questions provide ways you may want to approach this topic. Remember to focus on just one or two of the questions, if you choose to use them, as this will allow you to explore the topic in more depth.

  • How do you feel about these words? What do you think are their OPPOSITES?
  • What incidents or choices in your life have made you embrace these ways of being or their opposites?
  • Think about a person you admire from the past or present who embodies one or more of the four words. How has that person affected you?
